Unit Five "Past and Present" Social Studies Project
Interview: Interview an older family member, friend, or neighbor about the history of Brownstown, Vallonia (Driftwood), Wegan, Seymour, or any other place in Jackson County that is of historical significance. Help your child prepare for the interview by writing questions he/she may want to ask. Some sample questions you may want to use: Who was an important person in your community? How did that person help the community? What was an important event in the history of our community? Do you remember when your church was built? Is there anything you remember about LCS? When it was established? Do you remember some of the businesses in the '50's in Brownstown? The interview questions can be very open ended. Try to come up with something your child is interested in regarding our community--this could even go towards sports/parks/when McDonald's came to town. . . . Make sure a space is left after each question so that the student can take notes as the person answers. MAKE SURE THAT THE QUESTIONS SELECTED ALL TIE IN TO THE MAIN IDEA OF THE INTERVIEW. After the interview help your child write an informational paragraph with a main idea sentnece, three detail sentences and at least one supporting sentence for two of the detail sentences. This paragraph should reflect what is learned from the interview. These paragraphs are to be read in class and turned in to me. This assignment is due March 20th. |
