Language Arts: We will finish the Getting Started readers and begin Unit One-Kindness. The first story is called Because of You.
Vocabulary Words covered (these need to be learned by the students): kind, precious, care, share, feelings. The meanings to these words are in the glossary of the student books. These words will be tested from time to time. The words and definitions will be part of the student’s binders. THERE WILL NOT BE A STORY QUIZ OVER Because of You.

Word Wall and Language tests on Friday.
Math: We’ll begin Topic Two, Addition Strategies. Included is reviewing math fact strategies. (Adding 0,1,2, doubles, near doubles, adding any order, three numbers, making a 10 to add 9, and making a ten to add 8.) Work on math facts, please! We’ll be doing the same at school!
Science: We are planning to finish the plants unit. The test for chapter one is scheduled for Wednesday, September 1st.
Social Studies: We’ll begin our new Social Studies text. There are six units. We do six different unit projects. These projects are done by the students with the help of an adult(s). The Unit One project will be due on September 15th. The students will choose one of two choices.
Directions for Social Studies Unit One Project are:

A. “In the News” Materials needed-newspapers, news magazines, posterboard, scissors, tape or glue
Instructions: Create a chart on the posterboard with the following headings: The President, The Congress, The Supreme Court. Look through newspapers and news magazines for photos and reports of our government at work. Clip the photos and reports and tape or glue each under the appropriate column heading.
OR
B. “Presidential Trading Cards” Materials needed: Research books/biographies of the U.S. Presidents, internet information, drawing paper, crayons or markers
Instructions: Research two U.S. Presidents. Create a trading card for each by drawing a picture of the President on the front and listing some facts about him on the back. The facts might include his name, birth and death dates, home state, and years in office. The “cards” should be no larger than 8½” by 11” and no smaller than 4” by 6”.
