First Grade News
Week of February 1st-5th
Religion: The Parable of Two Sons (Matthew 21:28-32) and The Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37)
*As many of you know, Mrs. Klosterman will be taking a maternity leave soon. Mrs. Osterman will be teaching religion for first grade in Mrs. Klosterman’s absence.

Reading: We will finish our unit on maps and globes. Students will read Sam’s Map, Our Class Trip, and The Zoo Trip. Vocabulary words used in these stories are tour, subway, hum, and birds of prey. High frequency words used in our decodables this week are good, now, and very. We are continuing to work on /oo/ spelled _ew, u_e, and oo (as in foot). We will take AR tests Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Friday: Test
Spelling: This week’s words: new, rude, flute, foot, look, book, good, took, cookie, wood. There will be a pretest on Monday. The test will be on Friday.
Math: Students will work on counting by 10s and adding 10 to a number, ordering numbers to 100, counting by hundreds, and adding numbers that equal 10.

Wednesday: Lesson 92
Thursday: Lesson 93
Friday: Lesson 94 in class
Science: We will finish Chapter 4 by discussing how trees grow and how plants grow and change. Leveled readers will be sent home this week. There will be a test next week. Great work on the science extra credit!
Social Studies: We will be reading about American holidays and heroes, including Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
