Language Arts: Unit One-Kindness
Story-Because of You Vocabulary Words covered (these need to be learned by the students): kind, precious, care, share, feelings The meanings to these words are in the glossary of the student books. These words will be tested on the story quiz. There will be vocabulary words each week and they need to be studied weekly. Thank you.

Word Wall Words: came, after, snap, tell, best
Word Wall and Language tests on Friday.
Math: Lessons 19-23 Assessment on Tuesday.
Science: We are doing an abbreviated chapter on plants. The lessons covered are 1,3,4, and 6. Test over these lessons on Wednesday, 9/2.
Social Studies: We’ve just started our new Social Studies text. There are six units. We do six different unit projects. These projects are done by the students with the help of an adult(s). Looking ahead: the Unit One project will be due on September 11th.
Directions for Social Studies Unit One Project are: (Choose one.)
A. “In the News” Materials needed-newspapers, news magazines, posterboard, scissors, tape or glue
Procedure: Create a chart on the posterboard with the following headings: The President, The Congress, The Supreme Court. Look through newspapers and news magazines for photos and reports of our government at work. Clip the photos and reports and tape or glue each under the appropriate column heading.
OR
B. “Presidential Trading Cards” Materials needed: Research books/biographies of the U.S. Presidents, internet information, drawing paper, crayons or markers
Procedure: Create two Presidential Trading Cards. Research two U.S. Presidents. Create a trading card for each by drawing a picture of the President on the front and listing some facts about him on the back. The facts might include his name, birth and death dates, home state, and years in office. The “cards” should be no larger than 8½” by 11” and no smaller than 4” by 6”.
Looking ahead to assessment--We hope to have the Social Studies Unit One test on September 15th.
