2006-2007 Theme: Can You Hear Me Now?
As this school year winds down, a couple of things come to mind. First, I want to thank you for the support that you have given to LCS throughout this year. Supportive parents make such a big difference in relationships with teachers and in how your child views school. Your support helps to make what we do worthwhile! Secondly, I want to encourage you to keep your child learning throughout the summer. Encourage your child to read on a regular basis and try to do some summer activities that will help build his/her overall background knowledge. Continue to work on things that you know are a weakness for your child.
We are holding our annual Fine Arts Festival on May 11 in our gym. The Book Fair and art displays will open at 5:00 and from 5:30 to 6:30 you are invited to listen to a variety of individual vocal and instrumental performances from our students. The main part of the program will begin at 7:00 p.m. with each class performing a song or two, a skit, poetry or something they have worked on in school. Students are expected to be in their seat by 6:50 so that we can begin on time and all students are required to attend and participate with their class.
Track and Field Day will be held May 19. All the grades will participate in the track portion of the day in the morning at the track at the BCHS. After a lunch break, grades 1-4 will be involved in some activities around the school grounds and on the hill behind the school while the older kids go to the park for a volleyball, kickball, and softball team competition. We can use adult help, so if you can come for part of or all of the day, your assistance would be appreciated.
We will be having our annual class awards assembly at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 25 where we will honor students for their hard work throughout the school year. All parents are invited to attend this event. Graduation will begin at 7:00 later in the evening.
In case you are not aware of it, Lutheran Central has a new web site. It is the same address (lcsaints.com) but a new site that we have been using for the past couple of months. We have added much new content and we will continue to develop the site to make it more useable for you. You will find news items, newsletters and some teacher’s assignments on there now. Starting next school year, this newsletter, the Shepherd’s Staff newsletter, the lunch menu and some other things as well, will appear only on the web site and will not be printed and sent home with the students unless you ask us to send one home. Also next year, class newsletters, pictures, athletic schedules and directions to games, and a number of other things will be included on a regular basis. Many of you have discovered that our new site is worth checking for more than just your child’s grades and I hope you will help spread the word to other parents. Please let us know what you would find useful on the web site that is not already there.
Speaking of next school year, please mark your calendars for a couple of August events. The first is the teacher/parent/child meetings that will take place at school on August 3 and 7. These meetings replace the teacher’s home visit and are very important, so please make sure you are available for them. More information will be included with the July mailing. Also, there will be no opening service at Lutheran Central this year. Instead, each church will have an LCS Day where the faculty will be attending at that church. The dates for the LCS Days are: St. Peter’s- August 19, Trinity- August 26 and Wegan- September 9.
Kathy and I volunteer at the Cougar’s Den in Seymour. The Cougar’s Den is a retail store that is run by Trinity Lutheran High School that sells only gently used donated goods. I encourage you to support the store by shopping there, especially those of you that like a good deal, and by donating your good used items to the store. The store is located at 601 West Second Street, in Seymour.
God’s richest blessings to each of you. Have a wonderful summer!
“I wish that the expression “free will” had never been invented. It is not recorded in Scripture either and should more justly be called self-will, which is worthless. ” Martin Luther

Miss Thompson’s Walk
Some of you are aware that I will be participating in the “3Day” in August. This breast cancer walk will consist of 60 miles over 3 days in Chicago. If anyone would like to donate money to help sponsor my walk, I would greatly appreciate it. For those of you who like “on-line” shopping, or you would like to have general information, you can go to my 3Day web page: http://www.the3day.org/chicago07/adriennethompson. If you would prefer cash or check donations, just ask me about it.
Thanks for any help and/or support you can offer.
