First Grade News
Week of January 9-13
 
Religion: Jesus Calls His Disciples (John 1:35-51)
     Nicodemus Visits Jesus (John 3:1-21)
 
Memory: We will continue working on Luther’s Morning Prayer.
          Due Tuesday: For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things.
          Due Wednesday: Let your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
Due Friday: All of Luther’s Morning Prayer
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
 
Reading: We will finish our unit about weather. We will read three stories this week: Deserts, Snow Is Good!, and Hurricanes. Vocabulary words for this week are desert, snow, hibernate, tornado, hurricane, flood. High frequency words found in the decodables are day, way, sleep, doesn’t, my, too.
          Monday: Test in class
      Read at least one of the reading stories mentioned above.
          Tuesday: Decodable 75
          Wednesday: Decodable 76       
          Thursday:  Decodable 77
 
Spelling: There will be a spelling test Friday over these words.

Math: We will continue Topic 8 Geometry. Students will move shapes and learn about congruence and symmetry.
          Monday: Lesson 8-4 and Math Facts 59

          Wednesday: Lesson 8-6 and Math Facts 61
          Thursday: Lesson 8-7 and Math Facts 62
 
Science: Students will be creating something to solve a simple problem. The example in our book is a backscratcher. Talk to your child about a simple problem they have and what they could do to solve it.
