First Grade News
Week of November 14-18
Religion: Elijah and the Prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18:1-39) and Elijah Goes to Heaven (2 Kings 2:1-18)
Memory: Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me verse 1
Due Tuesday: Jesus, Savior, pilot me
Over life’s tempestuous sea;

Reading: This week will begin Unit 4: Our Neighborhood at Work. Students will be learning about the different jobs in a community. Sounds introduced this week are /y/, /v/, /l/ spelled –le, and long a spelled a and a_e. High frequency words for this week are: yes, all, were. Vocabulary words used in this week’s stories are: protecting, delivering, volunteer, and steel. We will focus on how the text and the illustrations of a story support one another. The reading test will be on Friday.

Wednesday: Decodable 59
Thursday: Decodable 60
Math: We will finish Topic 7. There will be a test on Wednesday. We will be skipping Topic 8 for now and starting Topic 9 Patterns.

Wednesday: math fact pg 35
Thursday: Lesson 9-1 and math fact pg 36
Social Studies: We will begin Unit 6 The Marketplace.
Special Announcements
* Report cards will be sent home Friday, November 18th.
*I am collecting large brown paper bags for the students to make “Indian Vests.” These need to be the large grocery sack bags. Thanks for your help!
*As temperatures drop, please keep in mind that students will still be going out for recess. Students need to bring coats appropriate for the weather.
*We are studying jobs in both reading and social studies. If you would like to visit our class to speak about your job, please let me know. Due to our reading requirements, afternoons work best. Our time frame is November 14-December 2nd.
