First Grade News
February 28-March 4th
Religion: Two Men Pray (Luke 18:9-14) The Lord’s Prayer (Luke 11: 1-10)
Memory: Our theme this month is Self-Control. Our Hymn of the Month is # 424 “O Christ, You Walked the Road.”

Reading: This week students will read The Itsy Bitsy Spider and The Hare and the Tortoise. Vocabulary words used in these stories are dew, silly, and pace. Students will be working on /oi/ spelled oi and oy, /r/ spelled wr, and /f/ spelled ph. The language arts focus this week is on possessive nouns. (Jim’s pencil-his pencil) The reading test will be on Friday.
Monday: Decodable 95
Tuesday: Read The Itsy Bitsy Spider in reading book.
Wednesday: Decodable 96
Thursday: Decodable 97 and read The Hare and the Tortoise in reading book.
Friday: Decodable 98 sent home if needed
Spelling: There will be a test on Friday.

Math: Students will continue learning about number patterns, including counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, odd and even numbers, and ordinal numbers (first, second, etc.).

Wednesday: Lesson 10-7 and Rocket Math
Thursday: Lesson 10-8 and Rocket Math
Friday: Lesson 10-9 in class
Science: We will begin Chapter 8 Matter. Students will explore solids, liquids, and gases.
Dr. Seuss Day! Wednesday, March 2nd is Dr. Seuss Day! This week is also Read Across America Week. Students may dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss character on Wednesday. (This is only for students in first grade. The rest of the school will not be participating.) We will also be reading lots of books and watching a movie.

*First Grade Chapel: Monday, February 28th at 8:30
*Please make sure your child has an appropriate coat for the weather that day. We will go outside if the windchill is above 20. I know this time of year the weather can change quickly. Children can always take coats off if they get too hot, but we do not have extra coats if it is too cold. Thank you.
*Please return the slips for National Lutheran Schools Week as soon as possible.
*Help session will be on Thursday, March 3rd and Tuesday March 8th.
*Please return report cards by Friday, March 4th.
