First Grade News
Week of November 15-19 and November 22-24
Religion: Students will begin the unit Waiting. Daniel and His Friends (Daniel 1) and Daniel and the Lions (Daniel 6)
Memory: The following are verses that go along with the students’ religion lessons from the unit Waiting.

Reading: Students will have a test on Monday over last week’s lessons. We are continuing our unit “Our Neighborhood at Work.” Students will be reading Quinto’s Neighborhood and Firefighters. Vocabulary words for this week are nurse, equipment, tanks, and rescue. High frequency words for this week are ride, walk, we, well, go, like, make, you. Students will be asked to identify the correct spelling of these words on their test. Students will be learning about the following sounds: long i spelled i consonant e, /s/ spelled ce and ci consonant, and /j/ spelled ge and gi.

*Don’t forget! All students need to take one AR test every week. Information regarding AR was sent home last week. We will be going to the computer lab on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the week of November 15th.
Spelling: All words this week contain the spelling i consonant e. There will be a test on Friday. There will be no test the week of November 22.

*Look for One Eyed Cookie to visit your house. He is visiting from Michigan as part of the Mascot Exchange Program.
*Don’t forget about the Pizza Hut Book It challenge. You can read books that count for both AR and Book It.
*Order forms will be coming home this week for a class book that first grade has created. It is a recipe book filled with the students’ favorite recipes.
