First Grade News
May 10-14
Religion: God Always Provides (1 Kings 17:1-16) and God Shows His Power (1 Kings 18: 16-46)
Memory: Hymn 717: Eternal Father, Strong to Save verse 2
Monday: O Christ, the Lord of hill and plain, O’er which our traffic runs amain
Tuesday: By mountain pass or valley low; Wherever Lord, Thy people go
Wednesday: Protect them by Thy guarding hand, From every peril on the land.
Thursday: All of verse 2
Reading: We will finish our unit on homes this week. Students will be reading Finding Shelter and “Home.” Vocabulary words introduced this week are creatures, hibernating, shady, and comfort. We will be reviewing r controlled vowels this week: ar, er, ir, ur, ear, or, and ore. We will also be reviewing singular, plural, and possessive nouns.
Monday: Read pages 88-97 in reading book.
Tuesday: Read pages 98-105.
Wednesday: Decodable 110
Thursday: Read all of reading story.
Friday: Test
Spelling: The pretest will be on Monday and the test will be on Friday.
Words: park, cart, order, core, store, torn, hard, harm, garden, story
Math: We will continue our unit on shapes. This week students will explore slides, flips, and turns and review congruent shapes and symmetrical shapes.
Monday-Thursday: Each night a double sided worksheet will be sent home for homework.
Social Studies: We will finish our unit on The Marketplace. There will be a test on Thursday. We will watch a short movie about how crayons are made in a factory and another video about different types of businesses.

*Know the difference between goods and services and be able to give examples of each.
*Read a bar graph.
*Know what factories do and what they need to make things.
*Know the difference between wants and needs.
