Classroom Happenings
Religion
Unit 2--Israel in the Wilderness.  Lessons: "The Golden Calf," "The Waters of Meribah," and "The Bronze Snake."  A unit assessment assignment will be started in class on Friday, October 30.   
Reading
We will be wrapping up Unit 2.  We will review vocabulary words and strategies from the unit, discuss our favorite selections, and read some poetry related to habitats.
Language—Sentences
We will finish our unit on sentences by studying simple and compound subjects and predicates.  We will learn how to fix fragments and run-on sentences.  Next week we will review on Wednesday and have a test on Thursday.
Math—L.50-L. 54    
Perimeter of different shapes; Subtraction review; Making number lines; 2-Digit Addition; Measuring to 1/2 inch; Multiplication Investigation
*Facts Focus: Multiplying by 1 and 10; Subtracting from 10
Social Studies—Communities of Different Sizes (Chapter 2)
We will finish Chapter 2 by looking at the connections between communities of different sizes and why people choose to live in certain ones.  Chapter 2 test will be on Thursday.  Next Friday we will have an open-book unit assessment.
Science—Ecosystems (Ch. 3)
We will study rainforest, wetland, and ocean ecosystems this week.  Students are creating a book about all the ecosystems they are learning about.  Students will also be working on an in-class group project to learn more about one of these ecosystems.
