Math- Students will learn to identify fractional parts of a whole, identifying a bar graph, measuring using centimeters, identifying cubes and cylinders. Students will have a fact test on Thursday and a written assessment on Friday.

Reading- Students will read Winners Never Quit. Students will be learning the /er/ sound spelled ear and reviewing all long vowels. Students will have a test on Thursday over the story, vocabulary, and sounds for this week. The high frequency words are: any, from, water, come Along with each test is an oral fluency assessment. Students should be able to read 65 words or more per a minute. Reading books several times, especially the decodables, is a way to improve student fluency.

The descriptive paragraphs that were sent home last week were just practice for students. We have been working on proofreading, revising, and publishing. I will take a grade on the next writing activity.

Challenge words: volleyball, unheard
We are going to have 2 challenge words this week, students will get an extra credit point for each word they get correct.
Handwriting- Ss
Some students are starting to get in a habit of sloppy writing. Please reinforce neatness at home. Students did much better last week on writing.
Keep It Up!!
Social Studies- Review Land and Water Unit
Students will need to make a collage to show how people use our
natural resources (trees, gas and oil, soil, trees, water). Students may draw these things or glue on pictures from magazines or the Internet. Students will make their collage on the construction paper provided.
This assignment is due on Thursday.

First Grade News
*Students may purchase DVDS of the chapel service and Miss America presentation at Trinity during Lutheran Schools Week. Each DVD is $5. If you would like to order a DVD please send money in an envelope with your child’s name on it. All orders are due March 20 (this Friday). Students will not be able to purchase DVDs after that date.
*Michelle Owens will be here on Wednesday to read to our class and on Thursday for students to check out public library books.
*Grade Reviews will be passed out on Friday. Please sign and return the grade review the week after spring break.
*We will have be celebrating Daniel and Laney’s baptismal birthday on Friday afternoon.
* Spring Break will begin on March 23. Classes will resume on Monday, March 30. Have a safe and fun break!!!
*Remember to all report card envelopes need to be returned.
