News and Notes from Grade Two 
Explorers Through Christ

RELIGION: Bible Truths- Gideon Leads God’s People and
(Unit Three—Bad Times and Good Times) Ruth
(Religion Quiz on Unit Two-Tuesday—Bible story books sent home over weekend—please send book back to school on Tuesday. Thanks.)

LANGUAGE ARTS:
Story : Hungry Hoppers 
Vocabulary Words: fussy, dull, sensing, antennae, cycle
We’ll work on cause and effect as well as capitalization and complete sentences. 
Story quiz on Friday, 10/14/11.
Spelling Words: tail, reach, queen, fear, say, gave, sweet, acorn, player, even 
Challenge words: always, depend, wait, underneath, sneeze 
 
Math: Even and odd numbers, using data from a chart. We’ll have a test over Topic Four on Wednesday. On Thursday there will be a cumulative test over Topics 1-4. Next week I will listen to the children skip count by 2’s to fifty, by 3’s to thirty, and by 5’s to one hundred. 
They may tell me when they are ready and what they wish to say. This will need to be completed by 10/14/11.
KEEP WORKING ON MATH FACTS. It is essential to learn the adding and subtracting facts this year.  It takes practice, practice, and more practice!!!! Thank you for your attention to this.
 
Social Studies- We were unable to complete Unit one so will have the Unit One test on Wednesday. I apologize for the lack of clarity regarding science and social studies. With the ninety minute block of time used in the morning for reading, we are finding it difficult to get everything in on a regular basis. The Social Studies projects have been graded and the students are working to give their of the projects. Thank you for your patience with this as well.
 
Science-None---concentrating on Social Studies this week.

Reformation Party
We will celebrate Reformation on Friday, October 28. Children in grade two generally love to dress in costume so for that day they may come in costume as someone from the Reformation (Examples: Martin Luther, Hans Luther, Margaret Luther, John Tetzel, Katie Luther) or they may choose a favorite person from the Bible. (Some examples we have studied are:  Noah, Abraham and Sarah, Isaac, Esau, Jacob, Moses, Aaron [Moses’ brother], Joseph,  Gideon). We’ll have a parade of costumes in the morning. Please have your child wear the costume over regular school clothes or he/she may change after our parade.
