News and Notes from Grade Two
December 3, 2010  
Theme: Fruits of the Spirit 
 
Bible Truths:           The Birth of John
                             An Angel Visits Mary
(If possible, please allow your child to have a Bible at school for the next two weeks. Thanks!) 
 
Memory: As assigned for church Christmas services. The students have been doing a great job on their memory! 
 
Language Arts: Story- Jalapeno Bagels 
Vocabulary Words: culture, international, ingredients, dough, jalapeno  pan dulce    empanadas de calabaza    challah  
Skills: Fact/opinion, commas in a series, dialogue, using questions when reading (who, what, when, where, why, how) 
Story Quiz 12/9/10
 
Word Wall Words: high, year, Christmas, rain, house 
Language/Word Wall Tests 12/10/10 
 
Math: We’ll finish Topic Eight—regrouping in addition. Quiz is set for Wednesday. We will work on Topic Nine—Subtracting two digit numbers. 
 
Social Studies: We are working on Unit Three. It looks like the test over this unit will be before Christmas break. See the information below for the Unit Project.
 
F.Y.I.:
Instead of doing a gift exchange, we will be bringing in items for a three ladies who are learning impaired. They live with a caregiver in Seymour. Two are legally blind and two are wheel chair bound. Mrs. Anne Baxter provided us with a list of items they could use. Please let me know what you would like to send. (Normally our gift exchange has been $5.00-$8.00.) If you wish to spend more of course that is fine as well. The students will bring the gifts to school, wrap them at school, and make cards for the ladies.  We are working on how the gifts will be delivered.  Here is a list of items:

Unit Three Social Studies Project
Choose a farm product.
Discuss with your parents how these products are used.
Choose one of the following for your project which is due December 17th.
1)      Write a paragraph about the farm product. Include a main idea sentence, three details and three supporting sentences, as well as a closing sentence. Be ready to read your paragraph to the class.
2)    Create a flowchart about using resources to produce the farm product you chose. Explain the steps and illustrate them. Be ready to explain your flowchart to the class.
