First Grade Newsletter
Week of October 18th
Religion: Samuel (1 Samuel 3) and David (1 Samuel 16: 1-13)
Memory: Hymn of the Month: #809 Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Monday: Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
Tuesday: All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Wednesday: Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me
Math: Students will begin Topic 6: Addition Facts to 12. They will be working on adding with 0, 1, 2, and adding doubles. (ex: 3+3=6)
Monday: Rocket Math
Tuesday: Lesson 6-1 and Rocket Math
Wednesday: Lesson 6-2 and Rocket Math
Thursday: Lesson 6-3 in class
Reading: We are beginning Unit 3: I Am Responsible. High frequency words for this week are get, that, this, for, jump, out. Vocabulary words used in our stories are responsibility, recycle, honest, and simple. Students will be working on the following sounds: /sh/, /th/, /ch/ spelled ch and _tch, and /or/ spelled or and ore. Students will also be reviewing the concepts of spaces between words and sentences and capitalizing the first word of sentences.
Monday: Decodables #38 and #39
Tuesday: Decodable #40
Wednesday: Decodables #41 and 42
Thursday: Test
Spelling: Words this week will focus on /or/ spelled or and ore. The test will be on Thursday.

Social Studies: Students will begin Unit 1 Responsibility.

*Fall break is October 22nd – October 25th.
*Parent Teacher conferences will take place on Monday and Tuesday.
