Social Studies: Unit Four Project Requirements:
The children have chosen their historical person. For the project you’ll need to make use of our textbook, easy-to-read-biographies, online sources for research, lined writing paper, pencils, crayons, and construction paper. (I’ll have construction paper available—have your child tell me what color.)
The information I’d like for your child to find out is:
Why the person is remembered, what life was like during the person’s lifetime, and any interesting facts about the person’s life.
The research will be used to write a journal entry that focuses on a single day in the person’s life. Try to choose an important day and then write about how the day might have gone based on the research done. Make sure the entry has a date, important information is included, and a sketch of the person or an event is on the page. Glue the page to the construction paper. Make sure the student’s name is at the bottom. We will put all of the entries together in chronological order to make a class book. Project is due February 5th.

Science:  We’ll continue working on “Properties of Matter”.

F.Y. I. :             The newly formed LCS Student Council is selling suckers for $0.50 each on Fridays to the Lower Grades. Your child is welcome to purchase these on Fridays.
February 8-Grade Two leads Chapel

February 12-Donations for LCS Auction Family Fun Basket due. (Please give an approx. value of what you send in as I am to give an approximate value to the basket.)

In light of the horrible earthquake in Haiti, the class and I discussed taking the money we’ve collected for the Epilepsy Foundation, American Heart Association, and Anchor House and making a donation of $25.00 to each. The rest of the money plus what is given until the end of May will go to Hearts for Haiti. I really am touched by their concern and thoughtfulness. If you have any questions, please contact me. We have a strong tie with Pastor Barnard and his mission and school in Haiti and I really appreciate the children’s concern.
