First Grade News
Week of January 11th-15th
Religion: Students will finish the unit Waiting.
Memory: We will finish the memory verse from last week. We will be working on Hymn #790 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty. It is our hymn of the month.
Due Tuesday: My eyes have seen Your salvation. Luke 2:30
Due Wednesday: Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation
Due Thursday: O my soul, praise Him, for He is your health and salvation!
Due Friday: Let all who hear Now to His temple draw near, Joining in glad adoration!
Reading: We will continue our lessons from last week to finish our unit “What’s the Weather?” Students will read three stories out of their readers: Deserts, Snow is Good!, and Hurricanes. Vocabulary words used in these stories are storing, shivered, tornado, and shatter. High frequency words for this week are day, way, sleep, don’t, my, too, came, me, right. Students will learn about long a spelled ai_ and _ay and long i spelled _igh, _y, and _ie. We will also be talking about changing y to i and adding –es to make words plural.
Monday: Decodable 78
Tuesday: Test
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday we will be taking the benchmark test and reading in book clubs. Any book your child needs to read will be in their folder or backpack.
Math: We will finish our lessons on the addition facts doubles plus one. The students will also learn about adding two digit numbers without regrouping and reading graphs.
Monday: Lesson 79
Tuesday: Lesson 80 and Fact Test
Wednesday: Written Test
Thursday: Lesson 81
Friday: Lesson 82 in class
Spelling: We will use the same words from last week. The test will be on Friday. The words for this week are: sunny, windy, happy, piece, field, parties, copies, stories, may, stay.
Social Studies: We will be learning about how America began.
Science: We will study the life cycle of a frog.
Announcements
*Our theme for the class auction basket will be gift wrap. This can include bags, bows, wrapping paper, tissue paper, boxes, gift wrap storage, tape, scissors, etc. It can be for any occasion. Monetary donations are also appreciated and will be used to purchase items needed after all donations have been made. Please turn in all donations by January 29th. Thank you for your support.
*Help session will be held on Tuesday.
*We are still missing a few science leveled readers. Please keep an eye out for these at home.
*Please return the consent form for the H1N1 clinic even if your child will not be receiving the vaccination.
