First Grade News: September 17-21, 2007
Religion- Israelites in the Wilderness- Exodus; The 12 Spies- Numbers
Memory- The Ten Commandments
Monday: 1st Commandment- Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.
Tuesday: 2nd Commandment- Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord, thy
God in vain.
Wednesday: 3rd Commandment- Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Thursday: 4th Commandment- Thou shalt honor thy father and thy mother. Math- Students will be covering a design with pattern blocks, review doubles facts, learning adding 1 facts, writing number sentences for some some went away stories, problem solving, and measuring with non-standard objects. Students will take a math test on Friday and a fact test over doubles facts.

Tuesday: Lesson 31B; Class Facts 31B
Wednesday: Lesson 32B; Class Facts 32B
Thursday: Lesson 33B; Class Facts 33B
Reading-We will begin a unit on “Where Animals Live”. Students will also be writing descriptive writings this week. We will be working on the c, k, f, and r sounds. We read the decodables at school and then students read them at home. If you see that your child is having difficulty at home with the books please let me know.

Vocabulary: poisonous, flicks, giant, fast, view, creep (these are words that will be in our stories.)
Spelling: This is the first week of spelling tests. Students will take a pretest on Monday which will not count for a grade. The test will be on Fridays.

Handwriting- Spacing between letters; Ll
Social Studies- Maps- students will making a classroom map in class; Schools
Science- Habitats- Wetlands and Oceans
*Please return grade reviews signed by Friday.
*Picture Day is on Friday. Every child must have an envelope with payment the day of pictures. If you send it in before I will get it to them the day of. Students will not be able to call home if their envelope is forgotten. Also if you have more than one student at our school, each student needs their own envelope with payment.
*Grades 3-8 will be taking ISTEP this week. Our class will not have music this week. I will be taking them to the gym on Tuesdays and they will have art.
