First Grade News
Week of December 6-10
Religion: Students will continue the unit “Waiting.”
Memory: Please see your Christmas Program for dates and verses.
Reading: This week we will have book clubs. Students will read about many different types of jobs. They will also be writing about what they want to be when they grow up. We will review long vowels a, i, o, and u. Students will also be reviewing different types of sentences. Throughout the week, students will be taking a benchmark exam.
Monday: Book Choice
Tuesday: Book Choice
Wednesday: Book Choice
Thursday: Book Choice
Spelling: There will be a test on Friday. All words are long e spelled ea.
1. eat 2. hear 3. clean 4. meat
5. teacher 6. mean 7. tea 8. seat
Math: Students will finish Topic 16 Addition. There will be a test on Wednesday. We will begin Topic 17 Subtraction.
Monday: Lesson 16-8 and Rocket Math
Tuesday: Review sheet and Rocket Math
Wednesday: Test in class Rocket Math
Thursday: Rocket Math
Social Studies: We will finish Unit 6. There will be a test on Thursday. We will take this test together as a class. Students will be expected to mark the correct answer given during class. This will be for a grade. Social studies books will be sent home this week for you to look over the unit with your child. Please focus on the lessons rather than the extra material between the lessons. The vocabulary words that they should know for the test are located at the front of the unit in the vocabulary section.

*Help Session will be moved to Monday this week and next. Help Session will be held on Monday, December 6th, and Monday, December 13th. I apologize for any inconvenience.
*Thank you to everyone who volunteered to visit our classroom to speak about their jobs. Our speakers were Sadie Mellencamp (Occupational Therapist), Pastor Ahlemeyer, Trent Shelton (Assistant Principal Brownstown Elementary), Greg Walker (Assistant Principal Brownstown High School), Teresa Brock (Medical Coder), Frank Wolka, Jr., (Volunteer for Ducks Unlimited), and Teddi Ashcraft (Jackson County Public Library).
*A note was sent home last week regarding the Christmas gift exchange. Please contact me with questions.
*I’m still looking for a few volunteers to help on Monday afternoons in the computer lab with first grade. If you know of any college students or grandparents that would be willing to help, please let me know.
