First Grade News
Week of May 3rd-7th
Religion: Mrs. Klosterman returns this week! Students will finish Unit 8 Alive! and begin Unit 9 Praise.
Memory: Students will be learning the hymn of the month Eternal Father, Strong to Save, #717, verse 1.
Monday: Eternal Father, strong to save, Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Tuesday: Who bidd’st the mighty ocean deep Its own appointed limits keep:
Wednesday: O hear us when we cry to Thee For those in peril on the sea
Thursday: All of verse one.
Reading: We will continue our unit on homes. We will not be reading all of the stories in this unit. This week students will read The White House and “Snail’s Pace.” Our vocabulary words are trudge, famous, and president. Students will be reviewing the following sound spellings: wh, th, sh, and ch. We will also be working on present tense sentences.
Monday: Read The White House in reading book.
Tuesday: Decodable 109
Wednesday: Read The White House in reading book.
Thursday: Read The White House and “Snail’s Pace.”
Friday: Test
Spelling: The pretest will be on Monday. The spelling test will be on Friday.
Words: ship, rich, shade, teach, chalk, dish, wash, check, shadow, child
Social Studies: We will begin Unit 6 The Marketplace. Students will be creating a marketplace in the classroom. They will be learning about goods and services, jobs people do, and buyers and sellers.
Math: This week we will finish our Saxon Math lessons. We will be working on additional lessons from a math series we may be adopting next year. The homework will look different from the Saxon homework. We will work on subtraction facts and shapes.
Monday: Lesson 134 Facts and Homework
Tuesday: Lesson 135 Facts and Homework Test in class
Wednesday: Plane Shapes Homework
Thursday: Properties of Plane Shapes Homework
Friday: Making New Shapes from Shapes in class

*Help Session will be on Tuesday.
*First grade still needs chaperones for our field trip to the zoo. (June 1st) Permission slips will be sent home soon.
*Chapel will be on Thursday this week. National Day of Prayer is also this day.
*We will resume taking AR tests this week. We were not able to take them last week due to ISTEP + Testing.
