First Grade News
February 8th-12th
Religion: A Woman Anoints Jesus (Luke 7: 36-50) and Zacchaeus Has a Friend (Luke 19: 1-10)
Memory: There will be no memory due Tuesday.
Tuesday: Jesus said “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” Luke 7:50
Wednesday: The Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost. Luke 19:10

The students did a great job of learning the verses for the hymn of the month.
Reading: We will begin Unit 7 I Think I Can this week. You may notice that the worksheets and test look a little different. This unit introduces many changes as the material starts to look more like second grade work. Students also will be reading from a hard backed reader this unit.
This week students will read Franklin Rides a Bike and The Kite. The test on Friday will include questions about the story The Kite. Vocabulary words used in this story are meadow and kite. Students will be asked questions about these words on the test.
Students will be working on the following sound spellings: /ow/ spelled ow and ou_ and /n/ spelled kn. Grades will be taken over dictation done in class.
Students will also be learning about quotation marks.
Monday: Decodable 88
Tuesday: Decodable 89
Wednesday: Read The Kite in reader
Thursday: Decodable 90 in class, Decodable 91 sent home Read The Kite in reader.
Friday: Test
Spelling: There will be a pretest on Monday. The test will be on Friday.
Spelling Words: crown, tower, pouch, outside, allow, chowder, round, mouse
Challenge Words: flower, playground
A spelling sheet may be sent home this week. Please complete it and return it the next day.
Math: This week students will continue working with sums of 10. They will also draw congruent shapes and designs, draw and measure line segments to the nearest inch, and count nickels.

Social Studies: This week we will be talking about Presidents. We will also review for the social studies test that will be next week. Books and leveled readers will be sent home this week.
Science: There will be a test on Tuesday. Leveled readers were sent home last week. Please study the vocabulary words. Please return the leveled readers on Tuesday.

*Our Valentine’s Day Party will be held on Friday afternoon. Below is a list of the students in our class. There are 13 students. Valentines may be brought in on Thursday or Friday.

*To show our support for the boys and girls in the LIT, we will have some special dress up days this week. There is also a pep rally at 2:30 on Friday.
