First Grade News: Sept. 22-26, 2008
Religion- Joshua the Leader- Deuteronomy 31
                Entering the Promise Land- Joshua 1
Memory- Ten Commandments
            Monday: 1st- Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.
            Tuesday: 2nd- Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord, thy God in vain.
            Wednesday: 3rd- Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.
            Thursday:  4th- Thou shalt honor your father and your mother
Math- Students will be reviewing adding 1 fact and identifying graphs.  Students will take a fact test on Thursday and written math test on Friday.
            Monday: Lesson 36B; Facts 36B
            Tuesday: Lesson 37B; Facts 37B
            Wednesday: Lesson 38B; Facts 38B
            Thursday: Fact Homework 40  
Reading-We are continuing our 2nd unit on Animal Habits and will be working on the following comprehension strategies: asking questions, making connections, and visualizing. Students will also be learning the /j/ sound spelled j and dge; /u/ and /z/ spelled z, s, ss. We will continue to work on blending sounds together.   Students will take a test on Friday over the sounds and concepts learned this week. The high frequency words for the week are: big, to, ask, of, got

Vocabulary Words: strikes, desert, tentacles, hinge  
            *These are just words students will be learning in the stories this week. They
             do not need to know how to spell them. Just talk about the meaning with 
             your child.

*We will start the all about me board next week. Kylee Wischmeier will be the first student. Please send in any pictures your child would like to share with the class. The pictures will be returned.
*Mrs. Hackman is just coming in the mornings until noon starting this week. Thank you to Mrs. Hackman for helping us get the school year started off great.
