First Grade News: February 4-8, 2008
Religion- Ash Wednesday; A Woman Anoints Jesus; Zachaeus
Memory- Bible Verses ( Students need to include the book, verse, and chapter.)

Math- Students will be subtracting a number from 10, adding 9, identifying a dozen and a half dozen, and measuring to the nearest foot this week. Students will have a fact test on Thursday and a written test on Friday.

Reading- We will be continuing our unit entitled “North, South, East, West” IF you have any brochures, maps, ect. you may send them with your child and we will put them on our theme board and then return them at the end of the unit. This week students will be learning the /oo/ sound spelled oo, _ue and u.
Monday: Read Decodable #82
Wednesday: Read Decodable #83
Thursday: Read Decodable # 84
Writing: writing a middle, beginning, and an end of a story
Spelling: The test will be on Friday.
Words: moo, boot, tooth, roof, room, true, blue, due, fluid, ruler

*Zacary White will be on the All About Me Board next week. Please send in pictures by Thursday.
*Students have an opportunity to go to our school library on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
* We will continue working on our Science Fair Project this week. We will not have gym on Tuesday so we can work on Science Fair. The students will be put in three groups. I will have 1 project for the class. The groups will put the information from the project together. This week we will be making our hypothesis. As the science fair gets closer, we may need extra help in our class. If you would be interested in helping, please let me know. Thank you!
*Our class will be going with 2nd grade to the Derby Dinner Playhouse on Wednesday Feb. 27. If you would like to go as a chaperone please let me know. We can only take 5 parents from our class.
* I noticed that the baptismal birthday party for Cassidy, Ryland, Megan, and Hunter Tormoehlen is scheduled for February 15 which is the day after our Valentine’s Day party. I would like to change it to Friday, February 22. If this is a problem please let me know. Thank you!
*On February 18, I will be having an Usborne Books party at my home beginning at 6:30. If anyone is interested in books and would like to come or cannot come but would like to see a catalog please let me know.
