First Grade News
Week of January 31- February 4
Religion: Our Fruit of the Spirit for this month is Love.
Memory: Students will learn verse one from our hymn of the month: #706 Love in Christ is Strong and Living.
Monday: Love in Christ is strong and living,
Tuesday: Binding faithful hearts in one;
Wednesday: Love in Christ is true and giving.
Thursday: May His will in us be done.
Students will also begin working on their parts for our chapel service. First grade will present chapel on Monday, February 28th. We’d love to see you there!
Reading: We will continue our unit about maps. Students will read two stories out of their readers this week: A Trip to Grandma’s House and The Special Day. We will focus on the sound spelling /oo/ spelled oo (like in goo), _ue, and u. High frequency words used this week are saw, blue, and one. Vocabulary words are symbol, equator, left, and celebrate. Students will be writing about a trip they have taken. Please talk to them at home about some of the trips your family has taken to get their ideas flowing.

Tuesday: Read A Trip to Grandma’s House in the reader.
Wednesday: Decodable 83
Thursday: Decodable 84
Spelling: Students will review high frequency words. There are 10 words this week.

Math: We will finish our unit on geometry. Students will learn about symmetry this week as well as solid figures (cones, cubes, cylinders, etc.). There will be a test next week.

Wednesday: Lesson 8-9 and Rocket Math
Thursday: Lesson 8-10 and Rocket Math
Science: We will work on our science fair project.

*Friday is Wear Red/Valentine’s Dress Up Day. To help raise money for Jump Rope for Heart, students are asked to bring in $1 for this dress up day.
*Thank you for helping to make our 100 day a success! We had some fantastic 100 year old first graders. The posters looked great and our “100 Mix” was delicious!
