We had a great first week of school! Good work on learning your memory, first grade!

Religion: Noah

Due Wednesday: For the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; for such there is no law
Thursday: Have you seen my Lord on the cross so high?
Friday: Do you know His name? Do you hear His cry?

Math: We will continue reviewing numbers to 12. Students will be using dot patterns to see numbers. (example: dice, dominoes, playing cards) There will be a test Monday, August 30.
Please make sure that you do only the side of the homework listed for that night.
Monday: Practice counting to 100. No worksheet
          Tuesday: Side 1-3
          Wednesday: Side 1-4
          Thursday: Side 1-5

Reading: We will continue reviewing the alphabet. We will finish the alphabet books that the students have been working on in class. The students will also take a benchmark test this week. Benchmark tests will be given throughout the year to allow me to monitor student progress.
On Monday and Wednesday students will bring home a Pre-Decodable. These books contain words the students should be familiar with as well as picture clues for unfamiliar words. Students should be able to read these books on their own. Please have your child read the books two times. Please let me know if your child has difficulty reading the book. The books need to be returned the next day.
          Monday: Up! decodable
          Wednesday: I Have decodable

Spelling: These are high frequency words that the students worked on last year. These should be review words for most students. We will practice spelling these words on our daily dictation papers. (I say letters or words and the students write them down.) The spelling test will be Friday.
Words: the, is, up, see, have, I, a, are

Science: We will continue learning about tools. On Thursday we will be talking about tools used to fix meals. On Thursday Students need to bring in a tool of some kind and be able to tell how it is used. It could be a tool used for cooking, cleaning, fixing things, etc. Please don’t feel limited to hammers and screwdrivers. We are talking about how anything that people use to do a job are tools.
