First Grade News
Week of October 24-28
Religion: God Gives Hannah a Son (1 Samuel 1)
Samuel Anoints David (1 Samuel 16)
Memory: We will continue The Ten Commandments
Due Wednesday: The Fifth Commandment You shall not murder.
Due Friday: The Sixth Commandment You shall not commit adultery.
Reading: We will begin Unit 3: I Am Responsible. This week we will continue to work on identifying the main idea and details of stories. We will also work on using prior knowledge to connect with a new story. The sounds we will be working on this week are /sh/, /th/, /ch/, and /or/. Our high frequency words are get, that, this, for, and out. We will not have a reading test this week. It will be next Monday or Tuesday.
Tuesday: Decodable 38
Wednesday: Decodable 39
Thursday: Decodable 40
Friday: Decodable 41 sent home if needed
Math: We will begin Topic 6 Addition Facts. Students will be adding 0, 1, and 2, and adding doubles (ex: 2+2).
Tuesday: None
Wednesday: Lesson 6-1
Thursday: Lesson 6-2
Social Studies: We will begin Unit 1 Rules and Laws. Students will be discussing school rules and community rules this week.
Science: Pumpkins! Students will be learning about how pumpkins grow.
*Special Announcements*
*As your child probably told you, we did have to cancel the field trip to Starve Hallow. We will reschedule the trip for the spring.
*We will be having our Reformation Day party on Friday, October 28th. Students may dress up as “What I want to be when I grow up.” We will have a small parade with kindergarten and 2nd grade in the morning.
*Picture retakes will be held Thursday, November 3rd.
*We will try to walk to the library on Wednesday, October 26th in the morning.
