First Grade News
Week of May 16-20
Religion: Students will begin the last unit Praise.
Memory: There will only be memory due Tuesday and Wednesday due to the field trip and track and field.
Monday: Memorize your home phone number. (Or the cell number used as your home phone number)
Tuesday: Memorize your address, including city, state, and zip code.
Reading: We will begin Unit 10 I am Brave. This week we will read Clyde Monster and The Cat and the Mice. The vocabulary words are usually, clumsy, suggest, and excitement. The students will also be learning about the following prefixes and suffixes: un-, dis-, -ness, -er, -est, -ed, and -s. We will be reviewing capitalization and verbs. The test will be Wednesday.
Monday: Read Clyde Monster
Tuesday: Read The Cat and the Mice
Wednesday: Decodable
Spelling:
1. liked 2. likes 3. opens 4. opened 5. parts
6. parted 7. chased 8. chases 9. buried 10. exclaimed
Math: We will continue Topic 20. Students will be adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers.
Monday: Lesson 20-4 and Rocket Math
Tuesday: Lesson 20-5 and Rocket Math
Wednesday: Lesson 20-6 and Rocket Math
Social Studies: We will finish Unit 3. American Symbol projects are due Friday. There will be a test on Monday, May 23rd over Unit 3.
*Special Announcements*
*Track and Field Day is scheduled for Friday, May 20th. Students are encouraged to bring a bottled drink such as water or sports drinks. Please no pop. Students should wear their purple first grade shirts, tennis shoes, and comfortable pants. We will be at the track in the morning and outside most of the afternoon.
*We will not be taking AR tests on Thursday or Friday this week.
*Our class field trip is scheduled for Thursday, May 19th. Students should wear old tennis shoes and play clothes. We will be outside most of the day. Please dress accordingly.
*Information regarding the field trip to The Children’s Museum will be sent home this week.
*Dress Code Reminder: Shorts and skirts must reach fingertip length when hands are held straight down at a student’s side. First graders are not to wear flip flops or sandals without backs to school. Thank you.
