First Grade News
Week of May 2-6
Religion: The Great Commission (Matthew 28: 16-20)
Jesus Ascends to Heaven (Acts 1: 1-12)
Memory: On Monday students will bring home a short skit that we will be doing for the Fine Arts Fair. Their parts on marked in the packet. Each child has four parts. Please study them in order.
Monday: Part 1
Tuesday: Part 2
Wednesday: Part 3
Thursday: Part 4
Reading: We will continue our unit on homes. We will not be reading all of the stories in this unit. This week students will read The White House and “Snail’s Pace.” Our vocabulary words are trudge, famous, and president. Students will be reviewing the following sound spellings: wh, th, sh, and ch. We will continue working on sentences.
Monday: Read The White House in reading book.
Tuesday: Decodable 109
Wednesday: Read The White House in reading book.
Thursday: Read The White House and “Snail’s Pace.”
Friday: Test
Spelling: The test will be on Friday.

Math: We will continue Topic 14 Measurement. This week students will use feet, inches, and centimeters. They will also learn about perimeter and capacity (cups, pints, quarts).

Wednesday: Lesson 14-6 and Rocket Math
Thursday: Lesson 14-7 and Rocket Math
Friday: Lesson 14-8 in class
Social Studies: We will continue Unit 2. Thank you for sending in all of the great maps. The students love looking at them. Maps may also be brought in this week.
Special Announcements
*CF Day is Friday, May 6th. Students who purchased a pizza may wear flip flops and hats on Friday. First graders may want to bring an extra pair of shoes for recess.
*The Fine Arts Fair is Thursday, May 12. All students are expected to attend. It begins at 7:00. In addition to performances by individuals and classes, art work will be displayed. There is also a book fair. More information will be sent out as to what time students need to arrive in their classrooms.
*The Baptismal Birthday Party for May, June, and July Baptismal Birthdays is May 13.
*The field trip to Muscatatuck has been rescheduled for (hopefully a less soggy day) Thursday, May 19th.
*There will also be a field trip on May 26th to The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. If you are interested in going on either field trip, please let me know.
