First Grade News
April 12-16
Religion: The Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) and Jesus Ascends to Heaven (Acts 1: 1-12)
Memory: Please continue to have your child read their chapel parts at home each night. The parts do not need to be memorized. Your child can also practice the songs for the musical at home. Song sheets were sent home.
Reading: We will review long u and short u this week. We will read Flowers and “Flowers at Night.” This week’s vocabulary words are petals and bright. We will be working on antonyms. The test will be on Thursday due to the musical.
Monday: Read pgs 228-245 in reading book (Flowers)
Tuesday: Reread Flowers.
Wednesday: Read “Flowers at Night.”
Thursday: Decodable 105
Spelling: The pretest will be on Monday. The test will be on Friday.
Words: human, unit, fuel, music, mute, cube, huge, fumes, unite, amuse
Math: Students will be working on subtraction facts (-1 and -2), fractional parts of a set, and polygons.
Monday: Lesson 121 Homework
Tuesday: Lesson 122 Homework
Wednesday: Lesson 123 Homework
Thursday: Lesson 124 Homework
Friday: Test and Lesson 125 in class
Social Studies: We will take the social studies test on Tuesday. They need to know the following words: past, present, change, technology, time line.
Students also need to be able to answer questions about a time line.
Special Announcements
*We will have a visit from author Marilyn Anderson on Friday. A letter was sent home last week about the visit.
*The musical will be on Thursday, April 15th. First graders need to arrive at the high school auditorium no later than 6:40 p.m. Students should wear their class shirts and khakis (pants, skirts, shorts, or capris are all fine). Our dress rehearsal is on Thursday at 1:00. We will be going to the high school each day this week to practice.
*Pizza money for CF day is due Friday, April 16th.
*The St. Jude Mathathon pledges are due April 19th.
*We have scheduled our field trips! We will be going to Starve Hallow on April 30th. A permission slip will be sent home this week. On June 1st, we will be going to the Louisville Zoo. If you are interested in chaperoning either trip, please let me know.
*Help session will be on Thursday.
*First grade will be presenting Chapel on Monday, April 26th. We would love to have you there! (8:30-9:00)
