First Grade News: Oct. 13-17, 2008
Religion- The Story of Samuel- 1 Samuel 3; The Story of David- 1 Samuel 16:1-13  
Memory- Hymn of the Month
            Monday: The church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ, her Lord
            Tuesday: She is His new creation by water and the Word
            Wednesday:  From heav’n He came and sought her to be His holy bride
            Thursday:  With His own blood He bought her, and for her life He died.
Math- Students will be identifying even numbers, numbers on a hundreds chart, dimes and pennies, and counting by 10’s and 2’s. Students will take a fact test on Thursday over adding 1, adding 0, doubles facts, and subtracting 1 facts. Students will have a written math test on Friday over concepts learned this week.
            Monday: Lesson 51B; Facts 51B
            Tuesday: Lesson 52B; Facts 52B
            Wednesday: Lesson 53B; Fact Homework 53
            Thursday: Lesson 54B; Facts 54B
Reading-We are continuing a unit on “Responsibility.” Students will be reviewing the /th/, /ch/, and /sh/ sounds and learning /or/ and /ar/ sounds this week. Please work on these at home also. We will continue to work on blending sounds together.   Students will take a test on Tuesday over the sounds and concepts learned this week. The high frequency words for the week are: get, that, this, jump, for, and out  (these words will be on the high frequency test this week)
            Monday: Book #41
            Tuesday: Book #42
            Wednesday: Book #43; Home Connection (due Friday)
            Thursday: Book #44
Vocabulary Words: prove and owe     
English: Telling Sentences  
Handwriting- Tt                    
Spelling- dictation
Social Studies- Presidents and Voting
          On Tuesday students will begin writing “What would you do if you were President.” They will need to write 3 things they would do. They will bring it home on Tuesday to finish please complete and return by Thursday.       
Science- How animals survive in their habitats?

First Grade News
* Nathan Steinkamp will be the student on the all about me board this week. Please send in any pictures your child would like to share with the class. The pictures will be returned.
*Thank you for your donations and support for the chili supper!  
*Permission slips for the day at the park on Friday are due Wednesday.
*We will be leaving the school on Friday at 11 and will return by 2:45. All students should bring their own lunch and drink.
*Michelle Owens will be here on Thursday for students to check out library books.
*Parent-Teacher Conferences are on Monday and Tuesday. If you cannot make your scheduled time please let me know as soon as possible.
*Friday and Monday are a non bussing days. Students will need to be brought to school and picked up at the St. Peter’s parking lot.
