First Grade News
August 15th-August 19th
Religion: God Created the World (Genesis 1:1-2:22)
Cain and Abel (Genesis 4)
Memory: Theme of the Year
Due Wednesday: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous.
Due Friday: Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
Math: Students will be reviewing numbers to 12.
Wednesday (Due Thursday): Practice 1-1
Thursday (Due Friday): Practice 1-2
Reading: Students will be reviewing the letters of the alphabet and working on letter sounds a thru m. Students will be bringing home a book of their choice each night this week. If they cannot read it, it is okay for you to read it to them. I will also be introducing the skill “Read to Self” that will be part of our daily reading program. Students will be tested over kindergarten sight words on Friday. I will send home a list of words missed, if any, with each student on Friday.
Handwriting: lines, circles, and numbers
Science: We will begin Unit 1 The Nature of Science. Students will learn how scientists use their senses and tools to make observations.
