· Language Arts: We will work on recognizing the number of syllables in given words, rhyming, review the Wall Sound Cards as well as the short vowel sounds. The hard cover reader will NOT be sent home this week. Decodables will be sent home this week. They are: Sand,Tan Hats, and a Mat, Mitts and Hits, A Contest, and Gwen Must Run . We will also read a story called Little Green Riding Hood. It is the Getting Started Reader. Please make sure you listen to your child read the stories as the books are sent home. Thank you! There will NOT be a story quiz this week.
We will also work on alphabetical order and writing telling and asking sentences this week. (This will be tested on the language test.)

There will be a spelling and language test on Friday, August 19th
- Math We’ll work on understanding what happens when we add and subtract. We’ll also review math facts. Practice pages of math facts will be homework as well as the math homework book. Remember, do not tear out the pages of the math book. Remember only work the one page in the book each night.

· Class Shirts- Class shirts will be available again this year. Please indicate below your choice regarding the shirts. The cost will depend on the number of shirts ordered. We like to wear the shirts on special days as well as field trips. Please return the form by August 22nd.
· Please remember to check the LCS web-site or Fast Direct for the weekly second grade newsletter.
· No student council “breakfasts” will be sold until after Labor Day.
· Abbreviations you will see: PC-make paper corrections HW-homework
· If you do not have your user name and password to enable you to check A.R., please go to the school web-site and click on Accelerated Reader, then Parent, and there will be a place for you to click to request a user name and password. Mrs. Klosterman will then take care of the request and you will be able to check the status of your child’s work in A.R.
· Ice cream will be sold on Fridays beginning next week. (August 19th)
