First Grade News
Week of January 17-21
Religion: Students will being a new unit this week.
Memory: The Apostles’ Creed
Monday: suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.
Tuesday: He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead.
Wednesday: He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
Thursday: From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
Reading: We will continue the lessons that were assigned last week. There will be a test on Tuesday. Students will read about weather during book clubs on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Tuesday: Decodable 78
Wednesday: Science Reader
Thursday: Science Reader
(Students do not need to read all of the science reader in one night. They are leveled readers. Some of the books will contain just the basic information covered in our science books. Others will go beyond what was covered in the science lessons. Students should be able to read some of these books themselves.)
Spelling: All words contain long i spelled igh.

Math: We will being Topic 8 Geometry. This is a very long unit. There will probably be a test over a portion of the unit next week. This week students will focus on plane shapes (flat shapes) and their properties.
Monday: Lesson 8-1 and Rocket Math
Tuesday: Lesson 8-2 and Rocket Math
Wednesday: Lesson 8-3 and Rocket Math
Thursday: Lesson 8-4 and Rocket Math
Friday: Lesson 8-5 in Class
Social Studies: We will talk about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday.
Science: We will finish our chapter on weather. We will take a test on Friday. Students will take the test together.
Special Announcements
*Help Session will be held on Tuesday, January 18th. Next week, Help Session will be on Thursday (Jan. 27th).
*Students need to be taking at least one AR test per week. The title of the book must be written down on their AR sheet (a note is fine if you can’t find the sheet) in order for them to take a test. This is the only way I know they were able to read the book to you. This is part of their grade.
*The students enjoyed a popcorn party on Friday as a reward for winning the Christmas door decorating contest.
*Day One Hundred has been moved to January 26th. Posters will be due on this date. They may be turned in any time before then.
