First Grade News
Week of September 13-17
 
Religion: Rescue at the Red Sea (Exodus 14), The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20)
 
Memory: We will work on the refrain of “On Eagle’s Wings” for memory. Students need to sing the verse. They will be singing it on Sunday for the opening of the Race for to Remember Grace. The day listed is the day the verse is assigned for homework. (Students should also practice “Jesus Loves Me” at home. We will practice it at school too.)
          Monday: And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings,
          Tuesday: Bear you on the breath of dawn,
          Wednesday: Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His hand.
          Thursday: All of the refrain
 
Math: We will continue working on adding. There will be a test Monday, September 20th.
          Monday: worksheet 3-2
          Tuesday: worksheet 3-3
          Wednesday: worksheet 3-4
          Thursday: worksheet 3-5 and 3-6
 
Reading: This is the last week of our unit “Back to School.” We will be reading a story about schools long ago and sharing the interviews the students conducted. We will also be working on the following sounds: /p/, /l/, /b/, and short o. Students will be learning about singular and plural nouns. There will be a test on Friday. It will not include details from the stories we have read. It will cover the concepts we have been working on, such as sounds and high frequency words. Students should know the meaning of the following vocabulary words: uniform, graceful, supplies, college, invented, public.

          Tuesday: Decodable #14
          Wednesday: Decodable #15     
Thursday: Decodable #16
          Friday: Decodable #17 in class Decodables will be sent home with students who need extra practice. Interview sheets are due on Friday.
 
Spelling: There will be a test on Friday.

Special Announcements
*Windy City Players will perform for the students on Wednesday.

*Our classroom mascot Grizz will go home with students beginning this week. Directions on what to do with Grizz are in his journal. Please keep journal entries to one page.
