First Grade News
Week of October 12th, 2009
Religion: The Story of Rahab (Joshua 2) and The Fall of Jericho (Joshua 6)
Memory: Ten Commandments
Monday: The Fifth Commandment: You shall not murder.
Tuesday: The Sixth Commandment: You shall not commit adultery.
Wednesday: The Seventh Commandment: You shall not steal.
Thursday: You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
Math: Students will be working on adding one addition facts, sorting items, creating a graph, making and reading bar graphs, and weighing objects.
Monday: Lesson 36B and 36B Facts
Tuesday: Lesson 37B and 37B Facts
Wednesday: Lesson 38B and 38B Facts
Thursday: Lesson 39B and 39B Facts
Friday: Lesson 40 in class
Reading: We are finishing Unit 2 this week. Students will read about polar bears and acrostic poems. The vocabulary words used in our stories this week are camouflage, den, nests, and marsh. Our sight words this week are down, if, its, red, help, six, and then. We will also be talking about action verbs. The sound spellings introduced this week are /x/, /e/, /ed/, /d/, /t/, and /e/ spelled ea.

Thursday: Decodable #37
Social Studies: This week is Fire Prevention Week. The Brownstown Fire Chief will be in to visit with the children on Thursday. We will continue our lessons from last week about rights and working and playing together.
Science: We will begin Chapter 2 Animal Habitats.
