First Grade
2009-2010 School Year
Mrs. Rothert
Welcome to first grade! I am excited about our year together at Lutheran Central. Our school theme this year is S.O.A.R. (Standing on the Almighty Rock) and is taken from Isaiah 40:31. We will be sharing in many activities that will allow us to S.O.A.R. in the spiritual and academic sense. We will be reading, exploring numbers, writing, learning about the world around us, and most importantly, learning about our faith.

There will be a newsletter posted weekly on the school website. It will include homework assignments as well as important reminders. Please note that a newsletter will not be sent home to all students. If you do not have internet access, please let me know and I will send a copy of the newsletter with your child.
In addition to newsletters, you are encouraged to check the website frequently for school announcements. We are making every effort to conserve paper. The bullying program information, parent handbook, attendance policy, and ethical use policy can be found on the website. We will not be distributing copies of these items. We appreciate your help in our efforts.

Rules/Expectations
The students and I will work together to create a list of detailed rules for our classroom. Students are expected to use Christian-like manners, stay in their assigned work area, and do their best work. The whole class will be rewarded for good behavior by earning stones to place in a bucket. When the class receives 10 stones, they will all be rewarded. As the year goes on, the number of stones needed for a class reward will increase.
Consequences of Misbehavior:
Step 1: Warning and redirect behavior
Step 2: Lose 5 minutes of recess time
Step 3: Lose 10 minutes of recess time and note home
Step 4: Dependent on behavior
Class Celebrations
Birthdays and Baptismal Birthdays: Please let me know a week in advance if you are planning to send treats for your child’s birthday or baptismal birthday. This allows me to schedule time for the celebration.
Holiday Parties/Special Events: Please see the sign-up sheet. Reminders will be sent closer to the date of the celebration.
Forms and Documents
*Please return the “Star Student” form as soon as possible. Students will need at least one picture of themselves and one of their families. Please feel free to include others that go with the “Star Student” information. You may send the pictures in at the beginning of the year or the week before your child’s assigned week. (Reminders will be sent.)
