First Grade News: March 10-14, 2008
Religion- Jesus Visits Mary and Martha- Luke 10; Jesus Blesses the Children- Mark 10
Memory- Song- Glory Be To Jesus – LSB # 433
                 Monday: Glory be to Jesus, Who in bitter pains,
                 Tuesday: Poured for me the life-blood From His sacred veins!
                 Wednesday: Grace and life eternal in that blood I find
                  Thursday: Blest be His compassion, infinitely kind!
Math- Students will be counting dimes, nickels, and pennies; identifying a fraction of a whole; describing a bar graph; and making line segments this week.  Students will have a fact test and a written math test on Friday.

            Tuesday: Lesson 117B; Facts 117B
            Wednesday: Lesson 118B; Facts 118B
            Thursday: Lesson 119B; Facts 119B
Reading-We are continuing our unit called “I Think I Can” On our concept board this unit students are welcomed to bring in pictures of them participating in an activity or a picture of something they have learned to do.
Students will be learning the /aw/ sound spelled aw, _au, augh, and ough. Students will have a test on Friday over The Little Engine that Could (this will test comprehension and fluency) and other concepts learned this week.
            Monday: Read Book #92
            Wednesday: Read Book #93
            Thursday: Read Student Reader P. 40-69 (Test is on Friday)       
Vocabulary: dining car, fine, yards, riddles
Writing: writing a middle, beginning, and an end of a story  
Spelling: draw, lawn, fault, auto, saw, pause, awful, because, applaud, straw
*Spelling Test on Friday  
Language/English- Singular and Plural Nouns
Handwriting- Spacing of Letters and Words
Social Studies- Saving Our Resources
Science- Science Experiments

* 1st grade completed the testing part of their experiment last week. We will work on organizing the information this week.  
 
*Students may check out public library books on Thursday.
 
*Friday grade reviews will be sent if the program is working.
