Math: We will finish Topic Seven. I know this has been a challenging topic for some of the students. The point of the lessons is to show the relationship of addition to subtraction, but I realize that for some students it has been confusing. I always tell them this is just one strategy and it is not the one they have to use all the time. It is to make them aware that there are many strategies that can be used. Topic 8 will work on two digit addition.

Science-We’ll continue to work on Unit 2-Matter. The test for this unit is planned for next week.

F.Y.I.:
  • Read to Self is scheduled for this Wednesday, November 30th. We will walk to the library—weather permitting. Please take note of the weather that morning before sending your child. If the temperature is too cold or it is wet we will not go to the library.
  • Our class Christmas party will be December 20th. We will have a grab bag game so the girls need to bring a $5.00 girl’s gift and the boys need to bring a $5.00 boy’s gift. Please label as follows: To-Girl/Boy
                 From-Your child’s name
(Send gift after December 15 and before the 20th. Thanks.)

  • The last several years we have done a service project along with our gift giving. In today’s world we have much for which to be thankful and it is important for the children to realize what blessings we have and what a blessing it is to share. In the past we have donated canned goods to Anchor House as well as purchasing gifts for some mentally handicapped girls who live in a group home in Seymour. This year, in light of the horrific tornado that hit St. Joseph, MO, I thought we might send a contribution to their Lutheran School. Lutheran Central has a connection to the school as last year’s second grade class did a mascot exchange with their second grade. The second grade teacher and her husband lost their home, car and pickup truck. I know that aid has been sent, but I also know that in the aftermath of such a catastrophe it is good to know that someone still thinks of them and wants to support them. My thinking was that if each of the second graders would do an extra chore at home that would earn them a dollar, I would then match whatever is brought in and would purchase a gift card or send a check and direct that it be given to their second grade so that a game or some needed items like flashcards, posters etc. could be purchased for their classroom. This is not mandatory. You do not have to participate. If you and your child choose to do this, please send your contribution in by December 12th. Thank you!

May God continue to bless you and your family with His love and peace.
