First Grade News
Week of September 20th, 2010
 
Religion: Israel in the Wilderness (Exodus 16) and 12 Spies (Numbers 13)
 
Memory: Pledge to the Christian Flag
          Monday: I pledge allegiance to the cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ
          Tuesday: and to the faith for which it stands, one savior, eternal
          Wednesday: with mercy and grace for all. So help me God.
          Thursday: All of the pledge
 
Math: We will have the test over Topic 3 Addition on Monday. We will begin Topic 4 Understanding Subtraction on Tuesday. Students will also begin Rocket Math this week. This is a math fact practice program. Each night they will have a math fact practice sheet. 
          Monday: Test in Class, Math Fact Sheet
          Tuesday: Lesson 4-1 and Fact Sheet
          Wednesday: Lesson 4-2 and Fact Sheet
          Thursday: Lesson 4-3 and Fact Sheet
 
Reading: Our class enjoyed hearing about schools long ago. This week we will begin Unit 2 Where Animals Live. The sounds we will be working on are /k/ spelled c, /k/ spelled k and ck, /r/, and /f/.  This week some of the reading lessons have two decodables. I will see how it goes in class and decide that day which decodables will be sent home. I have listed the ones we will work on. Students will also be learning about adjectives.
          Monday: Decodable #18
          Tuesday: Decodables #19 and #20
Wednesday: Decodable #21
Thursday: Decodable #22 and #23
Friday: Test Decodable #24 and 25
         
Spelling: The spelling test will be on Friday.

Social Studies: We will finish Unit 4 about Our Changing World.
 
Science: We will begin our unit on animals and their habitats to correspond to our reading unit.

ü      Help Session: Thursday September 23rd 3:30-4:00
 
ü      Silly Bands have become a big distraction in our classroom. It is very hard for younger children to wear them and not play with them. Please do not allow your first grader to wear or bring them to school. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
