First Grade News
April 5-9
 
Religion: Jesus Lives! (Mark 28; Mark 16; John 20) and Jesus Appears to Thomas (John 20: 19-31)
 
Memory: Students should continue to practice reading their chapel parts at home. Please make sure their part is in their folder each day. We will be practicing this week. The only part that needs to be memorized for Chapel is as follows. All students will be saying it together. They say what is in bold. The congregation will say what is in italics.
          Monday: Grace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
          Tuesday: This is the day the Lord has made 
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
                         From the rising of the sun to its setting
                     The name of the Lord is to be praised.
          Wednesday: Have no anxiety about anything
                     But in everything by prayer let your requests be made known to God.
                             They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength
                     They shall mount up with wings like eagles
          Thursday: They shall run and not be weary
                     They shall walk and not faint.
 
Reading: Students will be reviewing the long o and short o sounds this week. They will also be learning about synonyms. This week’s story is called Green and Growing. The vocabulary words are shrub, vine, energy, and stems. We will also finish writing about spring break.
          Monday: Read pgs 202-211 of Green and Growing.
          Tuesday: Read pgs 212-221 of Green and Growing.
          Wednesday: Decodable
          Thursday: Read all of Green and Growing.
          Friday: Test
 
Spelling: There will be a pretest on Monday and a test on Friday. Remember, pretests are not for a grade. They are just to see what words your child already knows. Students do not need to study for pretests.
Spelling words: home, toad, stove, goat, rope, coast, roam, code, lonely, cloak
 
Math: Students will be counting dimes, nickels, and pennies together, learning about fractional parts of a whole, making and reading bar graphs, measuring and drawing line segments using centimeters, and talking about cylinders and cubes.
          Monday: Lesson 116 Homework
          Tuesday: Lesson 117 Homework
          Wednesday: Lesson 118 Homework
          Thursday: Lesson 119 Homework
          Friday: Lesson 120 in class and test
 
Social Studies: We are finishing Unit 4 this week. There will be a test next week. This week students need to make a time line of their life. It can include details such as birth, baptism, start of school, birth of siblings, etc. There is an example on pages 182 and 183 in the social studies book. Please try to list 5 events.
 
Science: We will begin Chapter 7 Weather.
 
Special Announcements
 
*The words for the musical songs were sent home on Thursday, April 1st. Students should know most of the songs already. They can keep these at home to practice. The musical is Thursday, April 15th
 
*As the weather warms up, please keep the dress code in mind. Please no sleeveless shirts or short shorts/skirts. Students in K-4 may not wear shoes without backs. 
 
*Help Session will be on Tuesday.
