Our school year is off to a great start and we are enjoying the cooler temperatures that September has brought!
Our theme this year is “In Step with Christ”. The theme is based on the last section of Galatians 5 where Paul talks about how our spiritual nature is in conflict with our sinful nature al the time. Paul lists some of the ways that sin shows itself in the lives of people and then lists some of the characteristics of people who are “In Step with Christ”. He reminds us we have put to death that sinful nature because of what Jesus did for us on the cross and that if we are going to live by the Spirit, we need to be in step with that Spirit (Christ)! Each day our students learn more about the love of Jesus and see it practiced in the lives of their teachers. We hope and pray that their faith will grow as this school year moves on and that they will realize that being “In Step with Christ” is a 24/7/365 job!
Next week LCS students will be taking ISTEP tests and I would like to remind parents of the importance of your child’s attendance in school on those days. Students will always do better taking the test under normal circumstances with their classmates instead of by themselves during a make-up session, so please make sure your child is here unless they are really sick.
This year for chapel offering the students in each class have selected a project that they will support with their chapel offerings throughout the year. The following are the projects each class has chosen: K- Riley Children’s Hospital; 1st- Relay for Life; 2nd- Juvenile Diabetes and the Myers Cancer Center in Seymour; 3rd- Haiti Mission (Pastor Bernard); 4th- Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; 5th-Ronald McDonald House at Riley Children’s Hospital; 6th- March of Dimes; 7th- WHAS Crusade for Children; and 8th- Rev. Otto Brillinger, missionary in Kazakhstan and Lithuania and the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. I encourage you to support these causes by sending a weekly offering with your child. This is an opportunity to share our bounty with someone in need as God asks us to do.
I would like to remind you that there have been issues at Brownstown Central home football games the last couple of years. There is no supervision of the things going on behind LCS and the Presbyterian Church and I strongly encourage all of the parents from LC that attend the games with their children to make sure that you keep your children within your eye sight and do not let them run where there is no adult supervision.
Parents and students in grades one through eight can check their child’s grades on PowerSchool by going to the school’s web site (lcsaints.com). Parents of first and second graders were recently mailed their user names and passwords and the rest of you use the same one as last year. Contact the office if you do not remember your user names and passwords from last year. Your feedback on this service would be appreciated.
“God grant us all to live as we teach and to practice what we preach.” Martin Luther
