Malice in the Palace:
The Story of Esther
January 31, 2012
Dear Parents,
The Lutheran Central Middle School musical will be presenting Malice in the Palace; The Story of Esther on Thursday, April 12th at the Brownstown Central High School Auditorium. This will be a great opportunity for our middle school students to experience all that is involved in putting together a theatrical production, while sharing with their audience an awesome account from the Bible, learning to work together toward a common goal, and maybe having a little bit of fun too!
All rehearsals will take place during school hours. Auditions for principle roles will be held the first week of February.
The principle roles are as follows:
Esther (f)
the brave, down to earth heroine (large part with solos)
Haman (m)
a smooth, flattering advisor to the king (large part with solos)
Mordecai (m)
Esther’s guardian, a wise father figure with grit and determination
(large part with solos)
Narrator (m or f)
animated reader, trying to do his or her best
(large speaking part and will double in the chorus)
King Ahasuerus (m)
a proud but sometimes foolish man, full of self-important bluster and false humility (large speaking part and solo)
Harem Keeper (f)
an energetic comic character (large speaking part)
In addition to the principle roles, there are several other featured speaking and singing roles. Students should be prepared to give cold readings and sing at their audition. Not all students participating must audition, but will be in the chorus and may still be assigned speaking parts.
Theatre is a collaborative art, and we will need lots of help to make Malice in the Palace a great success. We are specifically looking for adults who have talents or interest in sewing and construction. Little experience is actually necessary, just a willingness to help out! If you or someone you know would like to help, please let Mr. Frick know as soon as possible. We will also need some parents to help out the week of the performance as well. More information will be forthcoming.
We are looking forward to a great process and a fantastic production!
Mr. Frick
