Language—Writer’s Workshop
We are continuing to work on our "free choice" writing for our first workshop project. Students have come up with some very creative and interesting ideas; I can't wait to read their finished products!
Math—L.32-L. 35
Estimating and measuring with centimeters; Adding multiples of 10 to 2-digit numbers; Ordering 3-digit numbers; 5 and 6 addition facts; Writing and solving story problems
*We are quickly completing our review of addition facts. When your child brings home a fact sheet for homework, please look it over. If they are having difficulty getting 20 correct, they would benefit from extra practice at home.
Social Studies—Communities (Chapter 1)
Differences in Communities; Communities Near and Far; Using Map Scales
Science—Animals (Ch. 2)
We will begin studying chapter two, which focuses on how animals can be grouped in different ways. Lessons will cover types of vertebrates and invertebrates, life cycles, and adaptations
*We need at least one package of Gummi Lifesavers (about 10 per student) for an activity we will be doing on Wednesday. If you can send one in, please let me know ASAP. Thanks!
Spelling Words—Lesson 4 (Adding -s and -es)

--Two of the challenge words (marked with *) will be randomly chosen for extra credit on Friday's test.
Homework: Write incorrect pretest words 3x, WS, pg. 26 (practice only) and 27 (due Thursday).
Enrichment: Choose your own 5 words, Plurals Practice, Study those challenge words!
Notes:
--Book orders are due on Wednesday. If you tried earlier to order online and the catalogs were not there, that issue has been resolved. If you are paying by check, please make it out to Scholastic.
--The Windy City Players will be performing on Wednesday at 10:10. We are happy to invite parents, grandparents, and younger siblings as our guests!
--Grade Reviews will come home on Friday. Please sign and return Monday, Sept. 21.
--We welcome Mrs. Harrison as our communications aide beginning this week. She will be working with 3rd grade by helping individual students or small groups with reading fluency, writing, or other skills.
--Please check over your child's morning work each night. We correct it together everyday, but I have noticed that not all the students are making the corrections on their papers. This is making it difficult for them to prepare for their quiz on Friday, which always takes one or two sentences from the week's practice.
