First Grade News: April 6-10

*Memory verses are going to become longer from now on to prepare students for 2nd grade.
Math- Students will learn to identify and draw polygons, subtract facts with the differences of 2; new problem solving strategies. Students will have a fact test and written test on Wednesday.
Monday: Lesson 124B; Facts 124B
Tuesday: Lesson 125B; Fact Homework 125
Reading- Students will continue unit 8, Away We Grow. Students will be reviewing the long and short i sounds this week. Students will have a test on Thursday over the story, vocabulary, and sounds for this week. Along with each test is an oral fluency assessment. Students should be able to read 65 words or more per a minute. Reading books several times, especially the decodables, is a way to improve student fluency.
Students will receive a take home activity for this week’s story, The Garden. The activity does not have to be completed this is just a suggestion to help reinforce the concepts from this unit.

Students will have a take home review paper on Wednesday. The paper is due on Thursday.

*Chapel will be on Maundy Thursday this week.
*School will be closed on Good Friday, this Friday.

*March was the last month for Snappy Pizza Reading Program. Great Job to those students who participated each month.
*Thank you to everyone who helped make our school auction a success. We were able to purchase a new playground with the money raised. Students began playing on the playground last Thursday.
