Christ is our Cornerstone!
First Grade News: Dec. 15-19
Religion- The Shepherds See the Savior- Luke 2    
Memory- Christmas Program Parts- These will be listed on each student’s program. They will have the date that the student needs to study that part. The parts for this week are green. The date listed is the night the students should study the memory for the next day. There will not be memory on Thursday night for Friday.
Math- Students will be grouping by tens, trading dimes for pennies, and problem solving. Students will have a fact test on Tuesday and a written test on Wednesday.     
            Monday: Lesson 84B; Facts 84B
            Tuesday: Lesson 85B; Fact Homework 85 
Reading-Students will be reviewing all the long vowel spellings and sounds we have worked on the past month. We will be doing activities with several books including:
Yo Yes!, The Mitten, and The Gingerbread Man. Students will also be taking the Benchmark Assessment 3 this week. If your child does not meet the requirements for this test or there is not improvement from the last benchmark I will let you know.
            *All students should read a book each night. Since there are not take home        books this week students will have an opportunity to concentrate on AR        books. Remember all students should be taking at least 1 AR test a week.
English: Capitalization- Months and Days; Comma between date and year   
Spelling: Students will take a pretest on Monday and then the actual test will be on Thursday.

Handwriting- Ff                     
Social Studies- Maps
Science- The Growth of Trees

First Grade News
*We will begin the all about me board after break.  
* Please have your child bring a $5-7 gift this week for the person they drew. The party will be on Dec. 19.
*All public library books that have been checked out at school should be returned by Dec. 19.  
*Our Christmas party is on Friday Dec. 19 at 1:30. Here is a list of those signed up to bring items or help. Snacks: Sheila Striegel and Melanie Pottschmidt; Drinks: Kandy Wischmeier; Plates: Julie Warren; Napkins: Stephanie Hackman; Party Favors: Tiffany East; Games/Activities: Melanie Peters; Help at Party: Teresa Brock and Dusti Brewster
*Our students in the 3rd through 8th grade took the ISTEP test this fall. The scores are excellent! There will be a pizza party provided by the school during lunch this Friday. I am going to provide the drinks for our class; students will also have the opportunity to get milk. If you would like to bring fruit or chips, for our class to eat with the pizza please let me know by Wednesday.
*The activities on Friday include Chapel and Christmas Program Practice in the morning. At 12:30 students will watch the geography bee in the gym followed by a Christmas sing-a-long; everyone is invited to attend. We will end the day with our Christmas party at 1:30.
*Our Christmas break will begin Monday, December 22 and classes will resume on Monday, January 5. Have a wonderful and safe break!
