First Grade News: Oct. 6-10, 2008
Religion- The Story of Ruth; The Story of Hannah- 1Samuel 1
Memory- Ten Commandments
(Students will only have memory 2 nights this week)
Tuesday: 9th Commandment- You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
Thursday: 10th Commandment You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife
Or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything
That belongs to your neighbor.
Math- Students will be identifying and counting dimes, counting by 2’s, telling time to the hour, and subtracting 0 and a number from itself. Students will take a fact test on Thursday over adding 1, adding 0, doubles facts, and subtracting 1 facts. Students will have a written math test on Friday over concepts learned this week.

Wednesday: Lesson 48B; Facts 48B
Thursday: Lesson 49B; Fact Homework 49
Reading-We are beginning a unit on “Responsibility.” Students will be working on the /sh/, /th/, /ch/, and /or/ sounds this week. Please work on these at home also. Students will also be taking a benchmark test this week to see how they have improved from the beginning of the year. We will continue to work on blending sounds together. Students will take a test on Friday over the sounds and concepts learned this week. The high frequency words for the week are: get, that, this, jump, for, and out

We are talking about the United States this week. Each student should bring in something from a state either they have been to or their parents have been too. Students will present these items on Tuesday or Thursday. Students will get a participation grade.
Science- Plants and Animals way of Life
* Joseph Striegel will be the student on the all about me board this week. Please send in any pictures your child would like to share with the class. The pictures will be returned.
*The LCS chili supper is on Friday. All are invited to come to support our school.
*On October 17 our class is going to take a hay ride to the park for a picnic and an afternoon of fun and games. Permission slips will be sent home later this week.
