Lutheran Central News

May 2007

Greetings from Lutheran Central! May is a wonderful time of year that reminds me so much of Easter. The ground warms and the flowers and trees (and weeds) come out in full bloom from seed or their winter sleep just like Jesus did after three days in the grave. I remind you that because Jesus rose, so will you and I! He is risen! Alleluia!

The warm temperatures of spring means that our students are involved in sports that take place outside. We have sixth through eighth graders involved in Brownstown Middle School golf and track and baseball and softball practices have also begun. Many of our Physical Education classes have moved outside also. Our students are currently finishing up with physical fitness testing which they have been doing for the last few weeks.

Planning has begun for the Fine Arts Festival to be held May 11 in our gym. Teachers are currently planning and preparing what their class will present to the audience. The evening will begin somewhere around 5:30 p.m. with a variety of individual vocal or instrumental performances. The main part of the program will begin about 7:00 p.m. with each class performing a song or two, a skit, poetry or something they have worked on in school. Artwork done by the students throughout the year will be on display in the gym and main hallway of the school. There will also be a book fair that evening for students and parents to purchase books for summer reading. All students are required to attend and participate with their class. This event is open to the public and we hope that many of you will come and enjoy the talents of our students.

Our faculty will be adopting the Indiana District Reading curriculum for use at LC. This curriculum is developed by a group of Lutheran School teachers from around the state under the guidance of the District office. The group takes the newest Indiana State standards and inserts standards from our LC-MS standards, Integrating the Faith. They also add a philosophy statement based on our Lutheran perspective. We are in the process of making choices concerning what texts will be used next year in reading but have not made those decisions as of yet. As always with any textbook, we will choose one that has been approved by the State of Indiana.

Trinity Lutheran High School band and choir will be visiting LC for an interactive concert on May 17 beginning at 1:00 P.M. The students and faculty from LC will be involved in some of the fun pieces that they will be doing. It should be an interesting and enjoyable experience for our students. Parents and guests are welcome to attend.

May also brings other events that some of you may wish to attend. We have track and field day on May 18; our annual Awards assembly on May 25 beginning at 1:00 P.M.; and then graduation for our 2006-07 eighth grade class at 7:00 P.M. on May 26. Most of our classes will be taking end-of-the-year field trips so please look for those permission slips to be coming home soon.

From the faculty and staff, we all thank you for your loving, caring support for Lutheran Central School. Have a wonderful summer and may God’s continued blessings be with all of you!

In His Service,

Kim Overgaard
