First Grade News: January 14-18, 2008
Religion- Jesus chooses His disciples; The Big Catch of Fish
Memory- Hymn of the Month – I want to Walk as a Child of the Light V.2
Tuesday: I want to see the brightness of God. I want to look at Jesus.
Thursday: Clear Sun of Righteousness, shine on my path, and show me the
way to the Father.
Math- Students will be learning to tell time to the ½ hour, identifying fourths and halves, and adding ten to a number this week. Fact Test is on Thursday and the written math test in on Friday.

Tuesday: Lesson 92B; Facts 92B
Wednesday: Lesson 93B; Facts 93B
Thursday: Lesson 94B; Facts 94B
Reading- We are continuing our unit on “Weather.” This week students will get their own First Reader to read our stories instead of the big book. We will also continue with the decodable readers. Students will be learning the long e sound spelled _y and _ie_ and the s sound spelled cy.

Wednesday: Read Decodable #72
Vocabulary- weather, sparkles, sleet
Spelling: The test will be on Friday.
Words: field, brief, baby, lady, pony, icy, lacy, city, fancy, cent

*Students have an opportunity to go to our school library on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
*I would like to remind you that this newsletter is very important. Most of our homework stays the some each week but as we get closer to the end of the year there may be extra assignments added so it is crucial to read this newsletter to know of homework or other important news in our class. Thank you!
* This week we will be beginning our science fair project. The students will be put in three groups. I will have 1 project for the class. The groups will put the information from the project together. As the science fair gets closer, we may need extra help in our class. If you would be interested in helping, please let me know. Thank you!
*Mrs. Owens will be here on Thursday with public library books.
*Our 100th day is on Friday.
*Our class will be going with 2nd grade to the Derby Dinner Playhouse on Wednesday Feb. 27. We will be seeing Charlotte’s Web. We are ordering shirts for the students to wear on the trip and other field trips. The shirts will be child sizes and will cost
