First Grade Newsletter
Week of October 10-14
 
Religion: Deborah (Judges 4-5) and Samson (Judges 13-16)
 
Memory: The Ten Commandments
          Due Wednesday: The Third Commandment Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
          Due Friday: The Fourth Commandment Honor your father and your mother.
 
Math: Students will continue working on Topic 5 about fives and tens. There will be a test on Friday.
          Monday: Worksheet 5-1
          Tuesday: Worksheet 5-2
          Wednesday: Worksheet 5-3
          Thursday: Worksheet 5-4 and 5-5
 
ReadingWe will finish Unit 2 about animal homes this week. We will be reviewing short e, -ed, and short e spelled ea. Our high frequency words this week are down, if, its, red, help, then, and six. The vocabulary words on the test this week are desert, tentacles, den, nest, and marsh. Students will also be looking for interesting words during their reading time and identifying the main idea and details of selections. Students will be taking Benchmark 2 this week to assess their progress in reading. 
          Monday: decodable 33
          Tuesday: decodables 34 and 35
          Wednesday: decodable 36
          Thursday: decodable 37
 
Science: We will continue learning about animal habitats and homes.
 
Announcements
*Parent teacher conferences will be held on Wednesday, October 12th and Thursday, October 13th. If you have a conflict with your assigned time, please let me know as soon as possible.
 
*The LCS Chili Supper is Friday, October 14th in the gym.
*I have an extra adult medium first grade t-shirt. If you would like to purchase it, please let me know. The cost is $7.
 
*The cost for the field trip is $2. If you have not already done so, please send it in by Wednesday. Thank you.
 
*Our classroom mascot will be traveling home with the students beginning this week. Please have your child write about what he/she and the mascot did that night. The mascot and journal need to be returned the next day. We are partnered with other Lutheran schools across the country. Throughout the school year, their mascots will also be sent home with your child as well.
 
*Grandparents Day is Thursday, October 20th. We will have Chapel on that day. If your child will not have a grandparent present, please let me know.
