First Grade News
Week of April 25-29
Religion: Students will being a new unit called Alive!
Memory: Below is a song we have been working on in class. It is “Jesus Loves Me” in Spanish. I have written out the pronunciation of the words. In parentheses are the actual Spanish words. Most of the students are singing loud and clear when we practice, so they can probably sing it to you.
Monday: Cristo me ama, be in lo say (Christo me ama, bein lo se)
Su Pulabru ma say ver (Su Palabra me hace ver)
Tuesday: Kay los neenyos son de aquel (Que los niños son de aquel)
Kee in es newestro amigo fee el (Quien es neustro amigo fiel)
Wednesday: Si, Christo me ama (3 times)
La Biblia dee say a see (La Biblia dice asi)
Thursday: There will be no memory due Friday due to our field trip.
Reading: We will begin Unit 9 Home Sweet Home. Students will also start a new reading book. We will read two stories this week: Homes and Homes Around the World. The test will be over Homes. The vocabulary words this week are packed, clay, roof, and sturdy. Students will be reviewing long e, short e, and consonant blends (pl, cl, gr, dr, fl, pr, st, tr). Students will also be reviewing sentences. Due to the field trip, the test will be on Thursday.
Monday: Read Homes in reading book.
Tuesday: Decodable 107
Wednesday: Reread Homes.
Thursday: Decodable 108
Spelling: The test will be on Thursday this week.

Math: There will be a test on Monday over counting coins. On Tuesday, students will being Topic 14 Measurement. Students will be comparing lengths and using cubes to measure objects this week.

Wednesday: Lesson 14-1 and Rocket Math
Thursday: Lesson 14-2 and Rocket Math
Social Studies: We will being Unit 2 Where People Live. Students will be looking at maps and globes. I would like for students to bring in a map of some kind this week. It could be a local map, a map of a state, a U.S. map, a theme park map, a restaurant map, etc.
Special Announcements
*Just a reminder...the field trip to Muscatatuck is on Friday. Children need to bring a sack lunch and drink. They need to dress for the weather.
*Mark your calendars! The Fine Arts Fair is on Thursday, May 12.
*Please return grade reviews by Friday, April 29th.
*Many children have been bringing lots of extra erasers to school. These erasers have many parts to each one. They have become toys instead of erasers. Please keep these at home. The best erasers seem to be the pink rectangular ones.
